My beloved husband and I will be heading to the beach for the holiday weekend to spend some time with my family. We plan to do some diving and hopefully get a chance to see the 17th Century shipwreck that was discovered in Corolla this winter!
More importantly though I plan to take my jacket with me so that I may spend several evenings in a row working on it. If all goes well I’ll be finishing off the first sleeve and the gores buy Monday evening.
Today I wanted to share a YouTube video with you all on the Plaited Braid Stitch. I originally ran across it when a friend of mine posted it to her live journal. I’ll be using this stitch on my seams once the jacket is ready to assemble. I found this tutorial very useful and wanted to share it with you all as well.

No reason other than for decoration. I think it will add some very nice visual interest.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have been pondering an embroidered coif and I wanted to do THAT stitch on the seams, but I didn’t know what it was called to search the internet for instructions. Whew! You just saved me from exploding my budget with a lot of embroidery books.

I first read about the stitch in descriptions of several embroidered coifs in the V&A. I had been looking everywhere for instructions myself until some friends working on the Plymouth Jacket project came back with directions. The directions helped immensely but everything became crystal clear when one of my friends shared this video on her blog. The video helped me so much I knew I wanted to share it with my readers as well! I’m so happy you found it helpful too. 
Please let me know how your coif goes. I’d love to see pictures of the project. 
So far it’s not much more than a pattern (The Katherine) and a vague idea of which stich types belong where. Unfortunately, it’s far down on my to-do list . . .
