For those of you in the Raleigh Area the Raleigh City Museum is hosting a historical fashion event on April 16th focusing on the 18th -20th Centuries.  While not my main areas of interest I can’t give up an opportunity to spend time with other historical fashion geeks! Please stop by and say “Hi!”.

From the Website:

Join the Raleigh City Museum on April 16, 2011 to learn all about fashion, fads, and everyday dress from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Two programs will be presented that explore the styles of years past, at 11 am is 1770-1940: American Fashion History, where the evolution of clothing will be explored. How did we get from stiff and formal lines of the well-dressed colonist to the casual jeans and t-shirts worn today, and what came between? Then, at 1:30pm is a program on Mid-19th Century Dress in Detail. Learn what people wore before and during the American Civil War, as well as how their garments were constructed and used in everyday life. Original dresses and bonnets from private North Carolina textile collections will be on display, and costumed interpreters will present living breathing representations of the people who wore these fashions. Interpreters will include experienced costume and textile historians Amanda Cashwell and Stormi Souter of whynotthen.com; leading bonnet expert and author Dannielle Perry of timelytresses.com, and talking about men’s fashions will be Taylor Brantley. Admission is free.

This weekend was spent working on my new article for Foundations as well as pitching in to help with House Red Wolf’s (the NCSU SCA student group) recruitment demo on Sunday.

The current state of my new green linen Kirtle. The sleeves are attached, the hand finishing is done, and now all I need to do is hem it and sew the eyelets.

I spent most of this past weekend working on projects for various upcoming events.  My poor husband was on call all weekend which meant changing the planned projects around a bit but in the end I got quite a bit accomplished.

I am finally enjoying last weekend’s plans, just a week later. Earlier today I spent a lovely 2 hours embroidering on the patio while watching the sun shire Albemarle Sound.

I miss all my friends at Pennsic but I’m looking forward to the stories when they get back.

So, within about 30 minutes of making my post on Friday our plans for the weekend changed dramatically and we ended up staying in Raleigh.  Our beach plans were changed to this coming weekend.

Not to worry though.  I have still been working on the items I outlined on Friday and I hope to have some more cool things up and running for you guys very soon.

This weekend finds us at the beach.  I’m only taking three things with me (besides clothes, obviously):

  1. My computer
  2. My jacket embroidery
  3. My kite

I have some graphic design work to do for another web project I’m working on but I plan on spending the rest of my weekend embroidering on my jacket and finishing some much needed updates to Elizabethan Mafia.  The things I still need to do are listed below.  I’ve already gotten about half of them done but I really want to have the other half finished by the end of the weekend.

  1. Webpage write up for 14th Cen. hosen
  2. Add write up to Silk Suit
  3. Get Dueling article up
  4. Write up for stockings
  5. Add links to FR articles
  6. Write up for red linen kirtle
  7. Upgrade to Joomla 1.5.20

Don’t worry, I don’t plan on staying inside during my weekend at the beach.  But I do plan on taking advantage of the wireless connection at the club house and getting a good portion of this done while hanging out by the pool.  Afterward I plan on flying my kite at Jockey’s Ridge and maybe enjoying an ice cream with my hubby.

Last week really got away from me!  I guess a long weekend at the beach will do that to you. :)   I did get some embroidery done and I also enjoyed several hours reading on the beach.  It was heavenly.

Sadly we didn’t get a chance to see the 17th Century shipwreck, but I believe they will be moving it to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum soon and we plan on making a trip to see it as soon as we can.

In other news, some of you may have noticed the Affiliate link to Avahost.net that I have added to my blog and website.  Avahost is my hosting company and after having enjoyed their service for a full year I can now happily to recommend them to my readers.

This evening I officially turned in my Foundation’s Revealed article.  I plan on enjoying the rest of my evening watching Firefly with my husband.  Starting tomorrow I will be making some much needed updates to Wrapped and Stuffed and starting my second article.

From 12:00 noon until 4:30pm today I turned off all my social sites and email and wrote.  I made very good headway on my article for Your Wardrobe Unlock’d: the Costume Maker’s Companion and I’m pretty please with what I have so far.  I’m now about 1/3 of the way through and I full expect to meet my personal deadline. :)   If it’s raining tomorrow I plan to get in another 4ish hours of writing.  If it’s nice I plan to be at fighter practice.

Now I’m going to go enjoy a quick run on the treadmill, get some dinner, and spend the rest of my evening happily working on one of my current projects.
